King of My Life, I crown Thee Now

Born in 1874, Rheumatoid Arthritis crippled Jennie Evelyn Hussy’s lifestyle. From New Hampshire, Jane became a story, article, and hymn writer and created needlework designs for magazines. Her first story was published when she was thirteen years old.  

Jennie devoted much of her life to caring for s sister whose condition was, at the time, worse than her own. 

She was a Quaker and faithful Christian. It was said that she lived a life of gratitude and did not complain about her obligations or of her own deteriorating and deforming condition. In her heart, Christ was King. 

She was best known for a Civil War story she wrote called “The War Dog” and for one of her hymns, “Lead Me to Calvary.” It expresses the heart of one who is thankful for Jesus’ sacrifice and desires to honor him as King.

 

King of my life I crown Thee now- Thine shall the glory be;

Lest I forget Thy thorn-crowned brow, Lead me to Calvary.

 

Refrain: Lest I forget Gethsemane, Lest I forget Thine agony,

Lest I forget Thy love for me, Lead me to Calvary.

 

Show me the tomb where Thou wast laid, Tenderly mourned and wept;

Angels in robes of light arrayed Guarded Thee whilst Thou slept. [Refrain]

 

Let me like Mary, thru the gloom, Come with a gift to Thee;

Show to me now the empty tomb- Lead me to Calvary. [Refrain]

 

May I be willing, Lord, to bear Daily my cross for Thee;

Even Thy cup of grief to share- Thou hast borne all for me. [Refrain]
